That's not yours...

We went to my mom's house around 11am, and brought in the presents. My niece was there (Madison), so I gave her her present to open to kind of keep her and Olivia busy. They start opening up presents as Leah and I are saying our hellos to everyone. We're chatting for a minute or so, then we glance over and realize they're opening up everyone's presents! They had opened a picture frame for my Grandma, and a water filtration pitcher for my Mom! The looks on their faces were priceless though, they were completely confused as to what they were opening. :)

Stupid Hippies

The greatest thing about having a young child is you can get them to say almost anything if they're in the right mood. Sometimes Olivia is like a little parrot, and she'll just repeat or say anything you ask her to. We made the mistake of teaching her to say 'Get a job, hippie!' one day. We didn't think anything of it until we were at the grocery store checking out, and she started yelling 'Get a job, hippie!' at everyone as they walked by! Unfortunately, it's really hard not to laugh, which only encourages them more! :)

Pesos!

Leah was putting money in Olivia's piggy bank and was counting in Spanish, 'uno, dos, tres' etc. Olivia yelled at her:

'Mama, don't count in Spanish!'.

'Why not sweetie?'

'Because those aren't Spanish monies!'

I don't think I've ever seen that version of the movie...

Olivia was laying in bed, and Leah was going to get her blanket from the living room. I was talking to Olivia about Charlotte's Web, asking her about the animals and characters. I asked her what kind of animal Wilbur was, and she said 'she's a pig!' (Olivia thinks everyone is a she). I then asked her about Charlotte. Olivia got really flustered and was saying 'she's a..., she's a... she's not a roller coaster. I don't remember the word for what she is.' 'Is Charlotte a spider?' 'Yeah, she's a spider!' 'Is she a nice spider?' 'Yeah!'

Ribbit...?

I was doing laundry with Olivia, and I ran up the stairs real quick to get some hangers. Olivia came up after me and yelled 'Daddy! I don't know how to run up the stairs. I'm like a turtle. Ribbit, ribbit!'

Trick or Treat

We took Olivia out trick or treating through our little court and went to maybe 5 houses. She had just woken up from her nap, and was pretty out of it. We went to our neighbor's house, and she told Olivia to take whatever candy she wanted. Olivia looked at her with a deadpan expression and said 'Just put it in the bag...'

When we got home, Olivia had fun passing out the candy. She kept saying to all the little kids 'Do you want some candy? Just take 1!' It's so funny to see a 2 year old take charge!

Olivia's First Joke

Olivia was laying on the couch with Leah, and then hit her on the top of
the head.

Olivia: Knock Knock
Leah: Who's there?
Olivia: Boo hoo.
Leah:Boo hoo who?
Olivia: (slight pause)...Daddy!
Leah:( longer pause)...I don't get it...

...or Cool it up?

Leah heated Olivia's milk and gave it to her. Olivia took one drink and said 'It's too warm Mama. You need to warm it down for me!'

Potty Time!

Olivia has used her potty 4 times now, twice last night, and twice this morning! She only had one accident, in the bathroom; she said it was because she couldn't get up oto the big toilet. I'm so proud of my little girl! :)

Trouble

Olivia was singing her stinky song about me, so I sung it back about her. She got really offended and said 'I'm not stinky!'. 'Well, if you're not stinky, then what are you?' Her response: 'A Troublemaker!'

I miss you

I'm in Cleveland with Leah doing an investment class, and I haven't seen Olivia since Monday. It's never easy to be away from her that long. I've had to do it a couple of time due to traveling for work, but it's been since February.

I miss you sweetie. I'll see you tomorrow.

Old Blue Eyes

Leah and I thought it would be cute to teach Olivia a song that not many two year olds know. She's been singing her ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle, The Barney Theme, Elmo's World, etc. for awhile now. They're all cute, but who doesn't want their kid to sing something with some pizazz and class. It's finally starting to pay off; we were sitting around tonight and Olivia started to sing:

Fly Me to the Moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like on
Jupiter and Mars

Anyone have Super Bowl tickets they want to sell?

I think I yell too much when watching football. You have to understand though; I'm a Detroit Lions fan. I sat through over a decade that was lost by incompetence and arrogance. My team was irrelevant for over 10 years, the laughing stock of the league.

Finally, my team has people talking. They're 4-0, and some experts are picking them as on of the top 3 teams in the league. Meaningful football is stressful, especially when you're not used to it.

Anyway, I was watching the game with Olivia sitting next to me. Leah was in the kitchen talking to her mom on the phone. The Lions were playing Dallas in what became the greatest Lions game I have ever watched. Down 27-3 in the third quarter, they fought back to make it a game. I was yelling at the TV something like 'Stop it!' or 'GO!' depending on the action. Olivia is right next to me yelling 'Stop it!'. Leah came in the room and looked at me and said 'No, Mom, he's not yelling at Olivia, she's fine. They're sitting on the couch watching the Lions game.'

Later on in the next game, I stepped out of the room for a minute, and I hear my 2 year old yelling 'GO!' at the TV. That's my girl...

Hippity Hoppity...

I just spent 15 minutes jumping across our living room saying 'Ribbit, Ribbit'. It's amazing what you'll do to see your child laugh and smile...

Headbangers welcome

This happened awhile ago, but something made me think of it today and it always brings a smile to my face. Olivia was over at her Grandma's house (Grandma and Grandpa have A LOT of cats), and she was playing with the kitties, as Olivia calls them. At some point she tried to grab one of the kitties and just barely grabbed one. She told Grandma 'I gotta fistful of kitty'. When Grandma told us this, all I could think of was 'That would be an awesome band name!' Can't you see 'FISTFUL OF KITTY' playing a concert in a packed arena somewhere, with their name up in lights?

'I got tickets to the concert tonight.'

'You're going to see FISTFUL OF KITTY? Oh man, they ROCK!!!!'

Is there a glass slipper involved?

I was pouring myself a glass of ginger ale and Olivia came up to me and said 'I want some pop'. I said "Sweetied, this is ginger ale; it's not sweet, you won't like it.' She looked at me and repeated 'I want some pop.' 'Ok, but I don't think you'll like it'. She took one drink and said 'I like Gingerella!'

Oh God, I hope not!

We were sitting on the bed, and I put my head down on Leah's leg and said 'my leg' because Olivia is in her 'MINE' stage. Olivia said 'No, my leg' and then looked at Leah and said 'I'm gonna pull your leg off...'

I love my Mommy...

We were sitting there watching the Sunday night NFL game last night, and Olivia starts singing:

I love my Momma,
She's so sweet
and Cute.

Olivia somehow wrote a song about Leah. I asked Leah if she had taught Olivia the song or if this was a song from Sesame street, and as far as we can tell our 2 year old wrote her first song all by herself. So Leah started saying 'What about Momma being snugly? Momma's so sweet and snugly'. So Olivia wrote a second verse:

I love my Momma,
She's so sweet
and Snugly.

She then asked Olivia to see a song about Daddy, but Olivia said 'NO' with a devilish grin on her face. Leah then told Olivia that Daddy was Sweet and Stinky. About 5 minutes later, Olivia began to sing:

I love my Daddy,
He's so sweet,
And Stinky!

I got my revenge, because right after that Olivia sang:

I love my Mommy,
She's so Sweet,
And Stinky!

Start 'Em Young!

Leah and I took Olivia to the Cider Mill last weekend. We had a donut, drank some cider, and Olivia played in the little playhouses and had a great time. The cider mill isn't far from our house, so we had walked there and pulled Olivia in her wagon. As we were walking home, Olivia kept yelling 'Stop!'. So we'd stop and talk to her for a minute, and then we'd keep going. At one point she yelled 'Stop! STOP!' We stopped and had this conversation:

'What do you need, sweetie?'

'I need your credit card.'

'Why do you need my card?'

'I go to the grocery store and buy beer for you.'

'You want my credit card so you can go buy beer for me?'

'Yeah.'

'I appreciate the offer honey, but I don't think they'll let you buy. You're not old enough.'

'No.'

So my two year old daughter wanted to be nice and go buy me some beer using my money. How smart is a two year that knows that you buy things with credit cards, and you buy beer at the grocery store? And no, I didn't actually need beer. I had bought some the day before for the Lions game.

I don't like the Frog!

My wife and I had out first dance class yesterday. I bought ballroom dance classes for her birthday, and my father in law (FIL) and his fiancee volunteered to Olivia for us. We didn't get back to pick her up from their house until almost 10:30, which is WAY past her normal bed time. She was actually in a really good mood, running around and laughing, up until the moment we tried to take her away mixed nuts. Then her tiredness kicked in, and she was in a terrible mood. :(

There's a light in the driveway of my FIL's house, and there's usually a frog or two that hang out there at night and eat all the bugs that flock to the light. I went to go check real quick, and sure enough, there was a frog there! Thinking Olivia would like it, and it would maybe distract her and put her in a better mood, I called them all over. Olivia just stared at the frog, and reached out to touch it. Then he moved, and she FREAKED OUT! She started crying and saying 'I don't like the frog!'. She kept repeating it over and over again. We loaded her in the car and said out goodbyes. She finally seemed like she had calmed down and forget about it, until we started to back down the driveway. Then she started crying again and yelling 'I don't like the frog!' It was really funny, and we had to try really hard not to laugh until she finally fell asleep 5 minutes later.

Introduction

If you have a kid, they amaze you every day with the new stuff that they come up with. Each day, my daughter is doing new things, or just saying something that makes me wonder 'where did that come from?'. It doesn't help that at 2 years old she already talks like a 5 year old. She talks about things that have happened, are happening, or will happen. She can tell you what she did last night, and all the bad things that Grandma fed her for lunch. This blog is an attempt to capture those magic moments as they happen.
